E Komo Mai!

Hanabata days

Aloha! My name is Tani. I’m sure you know that from all of the videos I made. I’m a shy girl who just loves to laugh, chill, and have fun. I was born and raised on Maui (No Ka ‘Oi!!!). Graduated from Kamehameha and went to BYU-Hawaii to get my Bachelors in Graphic Design.

My dad is the number one inspiration for making ‘Ono Hawaiian Recipes. He loves to cook and since he was great at it, I fell in love with eating his yummy meals. Growing up wasn’t easy since my dad raised 4 kids by himself. Because he didn’t have the time to always make dinner, my siblings and I were tasked to cook or help with making dinner. For that, I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to learn to cook at an early age.

Homesick…

Over the course of the years, I moved to the mainland and eventually married my best and hunk of a husband, Aaron (#1 taste tester and camera operator). After living on the mainland for a few years, I started to get homesick and needed something to help me feel the island vibes that I remember so fondly. I came to the conclusion that food was what always brought back my childhood and sweet memories of home.

Since my husband and I knew a thing or two about video production, we created ‘Ono Hawaiian Recipes.  After much perseverance, our Facebook and Youtube started to gain traction and reach a wide audience.

I’ve gotten so many comments and messages thanking us for doing these videos. Like my reasoning, many locals have moved away from the islands and needed some onolicious local food to remind them of home in Hawaii. My hopes and goals are to bring many more recipes to those who are looking for something to bring them back to the islands or to simply eat ‘ono grindz (delicious food). Please feel free to join me and my husband as we keep adding more local recipes to our ever-growing website and social media. Mahalo!
